


Michaela Eremiášová has received numerous prestigious composition awards, including the ASCAP Foundation's Rudolf Nissim Prize for her violin concerto Emblems. Born in Prague, Czech Republic, she now resides in Los Angeles, California. Her work as a concert, jazz, film composer, and songwriter has led her to compose for a wide range of vocal and instrumental ensembles—from soloists to full orchestras—across genres including opera, jazz, electronic, and popular music. Her study and research of diverse musical traditions and compositional techniques are reflected in a unique blend of sound and stylistic expression.
Her collaborations span across creative disciplines, including work with renowned performers, writers, painters, poets, choreographers, and filmmakers. Alongside her husband and frequent collaborator, Colombian composer Jairo Duarte-López, she has composed and produced music for major clients such as Lifetime, Netflix, Amazon Prime, FOX Searchlight Pictures, Lantern Entertainment, Universal Production Music/Megatrax, Discovery Channel Latin America, National Geographic, FOX TeleColombia, and SportsNet Ontario. Their music has been featured in popular TV shows including Young Sheldon, The Big Bang Theory, and Modern Family, among others. Their chamber opera Car Crash Opera was showcased at the 2009 New York City Opera’s VOX Festival. The duo also composed scores for silent films presented at the 2011 Kurt Weill Festival and were commissioned that same year by Montclair State University to create an opera based on Lorca’s Bodas de Sangre. In 2014–2015, they contributed to Meet John Doe, an unfinished opera by Daniel Catán, commissioned by Cincinnati Opera.
Another key creative partner of Michaela’s is Elizabeth Breese, an accomplished writer and lyricist. Together, they formed the songwriting and production duo MotiVibes Music, collaborating with prominent artists such as Sean Kingston, Brian McKnight Jr., Kief Brown, Jackie’s Boy, Bielfield, and others. Their music has also been featured in popular TV shows including Temptation Island and The Ultimatum.
Eremiášová’s work with experimental filmmakers—including Stephanie Maxwell, Jean Detheux, Skip Battaglia, Peter Byrne, and Carole Woodlock—has been featured in over 300 national and international film festivals, including the SIGGRAPH Computer Animation Festival: Visual Music in New Orleans, the Anima Mundi Festival in São Paulo, Brazil, the backup_festival in Weimar, Germany, and the 27e édition des Rendez-vous du cinéma québécois in Québec, Canada. Several of these collaborations have earned awards, including the Excellence in Soundtrack Award for Car Crash Opera from the ASIFA-East Animated Film Festival, the ASIFA Award for Excellence in Experimental Techniques, Best Experimental/Animation/Music Video, Best New Art, Best Impact of Music in Experimental, Performance Art, and Art Films (Gold Medal for Excellence), and Best Experimental Short.
Her music has been performed by renowned organizations such as the New York City Opera, Kurt Weill Festival, and Cincinnati Opera, and interpreted by ensembles including the Arabesque Winds, the ITB Choir (Institut Teknologi Bandung) from Indonesia, the Chamber Choir Hymni from Denmark, vio-Link-oto, Eastman Triana, Eastman Chorale, Eastman Trombone Choir, Novus Trombone Quartet, and the Rainbow Band, Phil Wilson’s renowned Berklee big band.
Michaela Eremiášová is an Eastman School of Music PhD graduate and is currently a faculty member at Colburn School in Los Angeles, California.
