Biography

Michaela Eremiášová was born in Prague, Czech Republic. She has fulfilled commissions that range from jazz big bands and concert music ensembles to electro-acoustic music. Her collaborations include work with contemporary painters, poets, modern dance choreographers as well as with experimental film makers.Michaela’s music has been performed by ensembles such as New York City Opera, the Arabesque Winds, ITB (Institut Teknologi Bandung) Choir from Indonesia, Chamber Choir Hymni from Denmark, Eastman Triana, Eastman Chorale, Eastman Trombone Choir, and the Novus Quartet, among others. Most recently her music was presented at the 2009 New York City Opera’s VOX Festival and at the 29th Annual New Music Festival at Bowling Green State University.

Her collaborations with experimental film makers such as Stephanie Maxwell, Jean Detheux, Skip Battaglia, Peter Byrne and Carole Woodlock, have been featured in numerous national and international film festivals like Siggraph Computer Animation Festival - Visual Music in New Orleans, Anima Mundi Festival in Sao Paolo, Brazil, backup_festival in Weimar, Germany, 27e édition des Rendez-vous du cinéma québécois in Québéc, Canada, Abstract Panorama - London International Animation Festival in London, Abstract Panorama - Melbourne International Animation Festival, in Melbourne, Australia, The Int\’l Fest of Cinema and Technology in Los Angeles, Anchorage International Film Festival in Anchorage, Alaska, etc. Some of the collaborative projects have been recognized with several awards including the ASIFA Award for Excellence in Experimental Techniques, Best Experimental/Animation/Music Video award, Best New Art Award, and Best Experimental Short award.

Most recently Michaela became a recipient of ASCAPLUS award, and a finalist for the international choral composition competition Associazione “C. A. Seghizzi”, one of the largest in Europe. Michaela holds a BM in Composition from the Conservatory of Jaroslav Ježek; a Diploma Degree in Jazz Composition from Berklee College of Music and a Masters in Musicology from Charles’ University in Prague.

Currently Michaela is based in Rochester, NY, where she is finishing her PhD in Composition at the Eastman School of Music and is a co-instructor of Film Scoring Techniques for the Department of Jazz Studies and Contemporary Media. See the Curriculum Vitae.
